Len bought the Bumble B in March '87 to replace our commuter Escort, and I wasn't happy about it; An old car, to do 60+ miles per day to and from work? A car with no roof and all the inherent lack of safety? Expensive repairs, insurance and other running costs? No space for the kids or the dogs? It seemed silly at the time, but I thought I'd give it a go; after all, he'd soon get fed up with it when it started to go wrong and the rain came, wouldn't he?

So we joined the Edinburgh Club, and attended a few shows and runs - and, hey! I was enjoying it as much as him! It wasn't such a silly idea, after all!

Thirteen months later, with me fully into MG mode, Len bought Lucy, and presented me with the best birthday present ever. Mind you, it wasn't all plain sailing from the word go! I had serious problems with my back a few days before my birthday, and was out of action for some weeks.

But Lucy immediately integrated into the family unit so well that she came out in sympathy! We knew her clutch had been giving trouble for some time, so Len organised a new one. By the time I got back on my feet, so had Lucy, and ever since we've had lots of fun together. And one or two scrapes! Like when we bounced off a tractor and trailer, and Brian got the job of restoring her!

Sometimes Lucy can be a real Tomboy, and at others the most haughty Dame! Lucy can make Helen's V8 look positively demure in comparison. But I still love her, even when Len's swearing because his fingers don't fit, and she's drawing blood ('cos he swears at her).

In case you're wondering, no, she's not for sale - our daughter Rachel is demanding her in my Will! Already! I'm going to make her wait a while yet, I hope!
